I'm a triathlete myself, though not an elite one and don't make it to podiums.
I live in the Bay Area of California. I work fulltime in the technology sector. I started triathlons in my 50s, so I learned how to train and take care of my body without the benefits of youthful recovery. I was a lifelong recreational swimmer and biker. I'm not an athletically gifted triathlete; I know what it's like to struggle, to have to learn techniques, experience setbacks, and do rehab. I've worked through many challenges and issues along my journey and feel I've accumulated some wisdom I can use to help others.
I've completed sprint, Olympic, and Ironman distances, including my favorite event, the Escape from Alcatraz.
I practice the Maffetone Method, and I am an 80/20 Endurance certified coach. I believe strongly in the benefits of this type of training and have seen it help many people. For some, it has been an enabler to train consistently when they couldn't before.
One reason I'm doing this is that I looked for a coach or advisor myself when training. I didn't find what I needed, although I tried a couple. I found folks who just wanted to send me a canned training plan or were too rigid to adapt to the fact that I had certain injuries. In general, they were too "cookie-cutter." The value I needed wasn't in coming up with the basic plan; it was in adapting it to events and my personal needs.
I recently helped a few people with light guidance and received positive feedback from them about a few simple tips. I realized this is something I enjoy doing and can help with, so I've started this service.
