I offer personalized coaching/advising/mentoring services to help folks on their endurance journey. I don’t think of myself as someone who tells folks what to do but as a sounding board or advisor.
While I focus on triathlons , I am open to working with anyone who might want endurance coaching support no matter where they are in their journey even if that is just single sport (swim, bike or run) and sometimes that is the best way to start working together. If you have goals in those areas and don’t have an objective partner to help, let’s talk.
I work with athletes who are first time triathletes, athletes who may not be sure they can do this, athletes that are moving up in distance (such as Ironman), athletes who have limited time (folks who work full-time, parents), older athletes and athletes who have struggles.
I also have a passion working with athletes who are older or run limited where we leverarage a walk-run approach.
I live in the Bay Area of California. I have done Escape from Alcatraz and Ironman California and can help prepare for those races. I work with athletes remotely or in person if local. I am happy to work with athletes who are part of clubs but looking for some individualized advice.
I also have access to a wide range of other coaches through the communities I am in and if I am not the right fit, I can help find you one.
I personalize my engagement to the athlete's needs. However, I have two engagement models as starting points. With both models it starts with some goal you are working to.
Engagement Model 1: Alder Advisory Lite
In this model, you are making your own plans and workouts. You share your workouts with me via training peaks. I can thus see what you are doing. Based on that I can give you feedback on areas to think about and you can ask me questions. This is a nice way to get started and see how we work together.
Engagement Model 2: Alder Advisory
This focuses on comprehensive planning, execution and adaptation. In this model, we talk about goals. I will provide suggested training plans customized to your needs and weekly work suggestions via training peaks. We adapt the plan as you progress or face challenges. As an 80/20 certified coach, I have access to all of their training plans no matter if it is run, bike, swim, triathlon for all distances you can think of that can be used as starting points.
In both models, I will provide help when challenges arise (injuries, life events) and advise on strength, nutrition, equipment, race prep and more.
Either way, sometimes it is simply about having someone to talk things through regularly who can help with providing accountability and personalized guidance when often families and friends are tired of hearing about your nagging pains or training issues. It is your journey. I am here to help as you need it.
Finally, as an 80/20 endurance certified coach I will advise athletes to think carefully about intensity balance as part of their journey and understand the health, wellness and performance benefits of low intensity training. More info on 80/20 training philosophy and benefits
First, almost all endurance coaches are doing this based on a passion to help their athletes and not in it for the money and that is certainly the case for me. This makes pricing a tricky subject.
We all want to make pricing work for the athlete. Sometimes the act of paying also helps with accountability. Most coaches charge around $200+ monthly for coaching so they can make it a sustaining activity. I think it is well worth the money.
I however am currently looking for just a handful of athletes to partner with for 2026. Thus, I am offering to advise a small number of athletes who are willing to learn and grow with me, be self accountable and provide me feedback for no charge in 2026. If you feel you want to pay, we can discuss.
If interested please go to our contact page, describe your situation and I will reach out.
